To celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen, Historic Royal Palaces created Superbloom, a stunning display of flower blooms in the moat at The Tower of London. Over 20 million seeds from carefully designed seed mixes were sown in the spring, to bloom into a dramatic display of colours and patterns that visitors could wander through along a weaving path. At the same time, schools across the nation planted the same seed mix in their own gardens, so communities could enjoy creating and experiencing new biodiverse habitats to attract wildlife and be in harmony with The Tower. I wrote before about photographing a day of workshops with teachers whose schools will be taking part in the project, and it was such a joy to be commissioned to photograph some of the celebration days where the schools came from across the UK to visit Superbloom.

There was such excitement as for many of the children this was their first ever school trip, due to the pandemic, and their first visits to London. They had a surprise performance of a song written and performed specially for them, were presented with plaques to display in their gardens, goody bags full of exciting souvenirs and explored Superbloom and the Tower grounds thanks to Historic Royal Palaces.

I’ve shared a few images below and encourage you to visit the Superbloom website find out more about Superbloom and their plans to continue the legacy – it’s fantastic to hear that the blooms will continue in years to come!

It was so wonderful to capture a small part of such a fantastic project and see the deep impact it has made on so many. Huge congratulations to the incredible team for coordinating it all, and making it a truly special experience that will be remembered forever!
