Towards the end of last year I was commissioned by Historic Royal Palaces to photograph a day of workshops with teachers whose schools will be taking part in Superbloom - 'A stunning display of flower blooms at The Tower of London celebrating the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen'.
In spring, over 20 million seeds will be sown in the moat at The Tower of London from carefully designed seed mixes, and from June to September those seeds will bloom into a dramatic display of colours and patterns, which visitors will be able to wander through along a weaving path to the centre. At the same time, schools across the nation will be planting the same seed mix, so communities can enjoy creating and experiencing new biodiverse habitats to attract wildlife and be in harmony with The Tower.
My assignment was to document the early stages of the project, as teachers came together with fantastic team at The Tower and Thrive, the gardening for health charity, to learn about school gardening for wellbeing, share ideas and start to plan how they will approach the project.
It was so lovely hear about this really wonderful project, capture the interest and fun of the day, hear inspiring stories about how gardens have made a huge difference in education and communities, the enthusiasm and generosity of everyone involved and I can't wait to see how it all comes to life this spring!
I've shared a few images below and encourage you to visit the Superbloom website find out more about what they have planned and to book tickets to visit!
