Photography for Firstsite – Lucy Harwood: Bold Impressions and Late Lounge @ Firstsite

In December I spent a lovely evening photographing evening events at Firstsite. First, the opening event for their gloriously colourful exhibition Lucy Harwood: Bold Impressions, followed by Late Lounge @ Firstsite, in collaboration with Colchester Arts Centre.

“Marking the first major exhibition of Lucy Harwood’s work since 1975, this exhibition offers a captivating exploration of the life and career of the artist, a dedicated Post-Impressionist painter whose work echoes the boldness of Van Gogh and Gauguin.”

The opening for Lucy Harwood: Bold Impressionswas lovely and I was so interested to learn about Lucy Harwood, a local artist who was both a student and then a mentor at the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing. I’ve since been back to have a good look at the vibrant works and interesting artefacts.

Late Lounge @ Firstsite was also excellent – a wonderful atmosphere and excellent performances from musicians and poets, I lingered to soak it in, what a great way to spend a Friday night!

Lucy Harwood: Bold Impressions is open until Sunday 14 April 2024 at Firstsite.

Late Lounge @ Firstsite has dates coming up on the first Friday of the upcoming months.

Also, just to add that I recently went to the Firstsite Cinema to watch The Boy and The Heron and it was a really great experience – they have some really interesting screenings coming up so it’s well worth having a look at the listings, they often have more unusual films as well as new releases.
