Photography for Historic Royal Palaces: Visitors’ Guide for the Community Programme

In September I was commissioned by Historic Royal Palaces to help create a library of photographs that show potential visitors to Hampton Court Palace what they can expect to see when coming to the Palace and when participating in their Community programme.

Being able to see accurate images of what spaces look like as you enter them and whether those spaces are truly accessible to you is vital when planning a visit. Having a clearly illustrated guide makes things so much easier.

To capture what we needed we photographed across two days, walking the routes that visitors would take. On one of the days we worked with some of the lovely community members, who very kindly volunteered to be photographed as they walked the visitor routes, which was fantastic. It allowed us to show real scenarios, people interacting with elements such as herbs and pies in the kitchens, what to expect when your tickets are scanned, who is likely to greet you in the education spaces and the uniforms employees in the Palace will be wearing.

We also had the opportunity to photograph when the Palace was closed, so we could easily capture the interior and object photography we needed without disturbing visitors (or needing release forms!). I’ve shared a few of these photographs below, capturing key aspects such elements you can interact with, what you see as you enter a space, ramps, signage, steps, parking and seating.

It was wonderful to work with Historic Royal Palaces on this project. Thank you as always to their fabulous team and volunteers!

I definitely recommend a visit to Hampton Court Palace and you can find out more about the Historic Royal Palaces Community Programme:  https://www.hrp.org.uk/about-us/communities/#gs.677f7r
