Photography for Kids in Museums: Family Café Standard Launch

This July, Kids in Museums launched their new Family Café Standard at Canteen at the London Transport Museum and I was really pleased to photograph the morning for them.

Kids in Museums are a fantastic charity that work with museums, heritage sites and cultural organisations nationwide to make them more welcoming for children, young people and families. They’ve run the Family Friendly Museum Awardsince 2004 and have been organising Takeover Days since 2010, giving over 40,000 children and young people the opportunity to take over jobs normally done by adults in museums, galleries, historic homes, archives and heritage sites.

Their latest initiative, the Family Café Standard, is a new benchmark that recognises cafés at museums and cultural institutions that are great for families. Developed in partnership with catering company Benugo, which runs museum cafés across the UK, the standard rates museum cafés on the quality of their online information and promotion, space and facilities, choice of food, affordability, sustainability and staff training. It’s a fantastic scheme and something to look out for if you’re planning visits to UK attractions.

To celebrate the launch families were invited for a delicious breakfast at Canteen, the fabulous London Transport-styled Benugo café at the London Transport Museum. The children enjoyed goody bags filled with tasty treats and fun toys, grownups sipped coffees adorned with London Transport’s roundel and there were the most amazing cupcakes topped with the famous Underground logo.

It was a really lovely morning and the start of a very positive new standard for family cafés!

It was wonderful to work with the team at Kids in Museums again to capture such a great event!
