Takeover Day is a celebration of children and young people’s contributions to museums, galleries, arts organisations, archives and heritage sites. It’s a day on which they are given meaningful roles, working alongside staff and volunteers to participate in the life of the museum.
It was wonderful to see how excited and enthusiastic everyone was (staff very much included!) and I'm always amazed by how many cool things they get to try in a day: looking at insects under microscopes, finding out about suffragettes in original documents, having full creative control over the shop Christmas tree, making videos for social media, designing posters to educate people about making sure they look after the planet and decorating canvas bags they can use instead of disposable plastic bags - amazing!
I've shared a few images below - it was such a great day and wonderful to work with such a fantastic teams at Kids in Museums and The National Archives, too!
