June felt like it went by in a blur. It was a busy month!
On the work side of things I photographed houses in the sweltering sun, I went 8 meters up in a cherry picker to photograph a giant installation, which I later got to see in print, spent a lovely day photographing a wonderful community project and another zipping around London photographing a range of activities. We escaped to the seaside for 99s, had another birthday celebration in the sun, spent time in the garden, time staring out of the window and time noticing things on my walks.
Things I enjoyed in June:
Food: New recipe of the week continued, just about! Well I say just about, one week I made 3 new recipes and in another I think I’m probably pushing it to say the recipe was strictly ‘new’, but that’s okay! I made a berry pudding purely based on what I had in the freezer and a desire for a hot pudding, a very tasty cod and chorizo stew directly influenced by something I’d seen on Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown, and miso risotto sea bass from a Pinch of Nom recipe bookbecause I seemed to be in a fishy mood. Orzo chicken was another good one, which I saw whilst flicking through that cookery book, I made a sort of version of these roasted sweet potato wraps which was an excellent packed lunch and I also made a Christmas cake to be eaten in July, which is a long story.
Music: I realised I haven’t mentioned music for a while and that’s mainly because I’m terrible at listening to anything new. In June I kept going back to Deftones’ Ohms, particularly when working on the computer, and I somehow I think I forgot to add it to the blog when it came out but another ‘not new but also kept returning to’ album was Enter Shikari’s Moratorium (Broadcasts from the Interruption), which took me on a whole journey of feelings as I listened to it. Oh and I’m still obsessed with Post Human: Survival Horror.
Reading: Reading took a stumble again as I carried (slowly) on with what I was reading last month, My Stack Magazine this month was Matto and enjoyed reading about artists whilst lying under a tree.
TV & films: We’ve been watching Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown for a while now for Sunday morning breakfast viewing but I don’t think I’ve mentioned it here, so now I am – it’s so good! Shrill returned with a third series which I loved, we finished Call My Agent and I miss seeing all those gorgeous Parisian cafés. In movies we watched The Fugitivefor the first time in years and that was a pleasant way to spend a weary weekend afternoon. 3 Idiots was also really good and not at all what I expected (not that I really knew what to expect) and I loved Cinema Paradiso.
